NOWNESS presents the newly released Elemental film series in collaboration with CHANEL. Focusing on nature, paying attention to contemporary artistic practice and elements of science, this series of films utilizes conceptual visual language to sculpt virtual botanical worlds.

In the first episode of the NOWNESS Elemental series, Coco and team focused on the May Rose, a key plant for the making of CHANEL No.5. The film featured Olivier Polge, CHANEL's exclusive perfumer, on the subject of “creation”, and invited Chinese celebrity Boran Jing to provide an abstract voiceover on the “making-formula” of the flora. With a Chinese-French crossover narration, the audience are guided to the fantastical perfume wonderland of Grasse, France, where the may roses are being harvest in May every year.&#38;nbsp;

	“Lillian the Alien” is an experimental film exploring ideas of home and boundaries. Since Covid-19, China has forced many foreigners out of the country by refusing to renew their visas. Long before these regulations, issues of immigration have existed in many developed countries, predominately in the UK and US, where foreigners are legally referred to "alien status". 

When she received her deportation notice, Lillian the alien frantically searches for the perfect man on Tinker, the most popular dating app in this city of monsters, goping to marry her way into citizenship. “Lillian the Alien” highlights modern-day dating culture, immigration topics, as well as issues relating to recent Covid regulations in China.Please request permission to view full film at

	The saying ‘don’t burn bridges’, usually refers to ‘don’t easily ruin existing relationships and connections’. As magnificent infrastructures, bridges not only smooth the traffic and metaphysically connect two sides of the river, but also metaphorically connect the people.


Wuhan is a city built upon the Yangtze, one of the largest rivers in China. Thus, bridges are therefore essential in this city. With 11 bridges over the Yangtze River, 10 bridges over the Han River, and a total of 700 bridges throughout the city at various locations, Wuhan is undeniably also known as the "bridge capital". Furthermore, each bridge has its unique appearance, history and character.


In “Tales of the Bridges", the artist has selected four bridges that best represent Wuhan - the Yangtze River Bridge, the Tian Xing Zhou Yangtze River Bridge, the Gu Tian Bridge, and the Ying Wu Yangtze River Bridge - and has created characters with distinctive personalities based on the histories and appearances of the bridges. Incorporating the scenery by the bridges, the interactions between the personified characters, and interviews with local residents, the film explores keywords such as "people," "distance," and "connection" through a dramatic and humorous storyline. The renowned NOWNESS Private View series features international artists by highlighting their inspirations and creative processes. Combines sensual imagery captured at their exhibitions, studios and archival spaces, the series leads the audience into the eccentric worlds of these creative masterminds.

In this episode of Private View, Coco featured the prominent Chinese artist Caofei at her UCCA Exhibition: Staging the Era. Taking inspiration from the film “Night At the Museum”, the team casted the artist as a musuem janitor as she experience all characters from her artworks come dramtically to life.&#38;nbsp;

Casting the artist’s students and former collaborators, each character -- from the pregnant lady, to watermelon deliverer, to singer, janitor ---&#38;nbsp; is initmately connected with a specific work, constructing an otherworldly experience for the viewer.&#38;nbsp;

	PAPAPA is a experimental film that follows Nono, an emperor penguin, journey in search for her missing father, known as Papa. Set against the backdrop of an anamorphic Antarctica, this film employs surreal aesthetics to explore complex themes such as psychological trauma, financial and emotional debt, capitalism, and the intricacies of family structure in the internet era.The film is divided into three visually distinct ACTs. In ACT I, the artist transforms cyanotypes into animation and adds several different layers, creating a moving-painting. Throughout the film, the artist portrays all the characters, adding a sense of caricature humor and authentic to the narrative.As the penguin navigates a world filled with both literal and metaphorical predators, the film critiques patriarchal structures and highlights the enduring impact of familial bonds and obligations.Please request permission to view full film at cocoho.studio@outlook.com
