Focusing on nature, paying attention to contemporary artistic practice and elements of science, this series of films utilizes conceptual visual language to sculpt virtual botanical worlds. In the first episode of the NOWNESS Elemental series, Coco and team focused on the May Rose, a key plant for the making of CHANEL No.5. The film featured Olivier Polge, CHANEL's exclusive perfumer, on the subject of “creation”, and invited Chinese celebrity Boran Jing to provide an abstract voiceover on the “making-formula” of the flora. Shifting away from the mere “recreation” of a certain scent, the film focuses on colors, textures, and sounds, guiding the audience to compose their own perception of Grasse. As colors begin to carry warmth, sounds become textural; the calloused hands of flower pickers become almost tangible, and the immaculate perfume-making process becomes all the more audible; even the sealing of a Chanel perfume bottle orchestrates a tactile symphony. As magnificent infrastructures, bridges not only smooth the traffic and metaphysically connect two sides of the river, but also metaphorically connect the people. Wuhan is a city built upon the Yangtze, one of the largest rivers in China. Thus, bridges are therefore essential in this city. With 11 bridges over the Yangtze River, 10 bridges over the Han River, and a total of 700 bridges throughout the city at various locations, Wuhan is undeniably also known as the "bridge capital". Furthermore, each bridge has its unique appearance, history and character. In “Tales of the Bridges", the artist has selected four bridges that best represent Wuhan - the Yangtze River Bridge, the Tian Xing Zhou Yangtze River Bridge, the Gu Tian Bridge, and the Ying Wu Yangtze River Bridge - and has created characters with distinctive personalities based on the histories and appearances of the bridges. Incorporating the scenery by the bridges, the interactions between the personified characters, and interviews with local residents, the film explores keywords such as "people," "distance," and "connection" through a dramatic and humorous storyline. Combines sensual imagery captured at their exhibitions, studios and archival spaces, the series leads the audience into the eccentric worlds of these creative masterminds. In this episode of Private View, Coco featured the prominent Chinese artist Caofei at her UCCA Exhibition: Staging the Era.
