NOWNESS PAPER Vol.4
Talent Awards

2020

The long year of 2020 has been a time of loss and helplessness. It has also been a year of many variables for image makers. International film festivals were postponed, cross-border work was restricted, and shooting schedules were affected by external circumstances in one way or another. Under these circumstances, the NOWNESS Talent Awards still chose to go ahead as scheduled, hoping to give young short film creators some confidence and hope.

This is only the second year of the NOWNESS Talent Awards, but we were pleasantly surprised to see that compared to the entries received last year, the films entered this year were more diverse in terms of genre, narrative and artistic approach. Many of the young creators have already received attention at international festivals, including Cannes and Student Oscar. We had a few hesitations during the preliminary selection process, and the limit of 12 shortlisted films forced us to discard some of the more mature but distinctive works. At the same time, some of the films were so visually striking that we decided to make exceptions to the jury rules for them.
