Home as I Know It

2017

Digital collage

This series of work explores the artist’s experience of third world culture. In developmental psychology, third world culture individuals (TCI) are people who were raised in a culture other than their parents' or the culture of their country of nationality. It also describes whom live in a different environment during a significant part of their child development years.

As an individual who was born in Hong Kong, raised in Beijing and have lived in several cities, the artist was interested to explore the concept of a cultural home.

This series presents a dialogue between the artist’s present and her younger self, it’s a fading memory of the past and an ode to her family. Seeing Hong Kong as both a home and a foreign place, Home as I Know It is the artist’s fantastical attempt to explore “Home” with her eyes, feet and hands of the present.
